Scientist/Business Development

Position Overview

We are seeking a driven and innovative Scientist/Business Development professional to join our team and play a dual role at the intersection of scientific research and strategic growth. This individual will lead and support scientific initiatives in 3D tissue model development, while actively driving business development activities to expand VivoSphere’s impact within the biotech sector. The ideal candidate combines scientific rigor with entrepreneurial spirit, skilled in both laboratory research and building partnerships that propel organizational growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct research and development activities related to 3D tissue models and microphysiological systems.
  • Design, plan, and execute experimental studies; analyze data and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage day-to-day laboratory operations, including the procurement, maintenance, and calibration of scientific instruments and consumables
  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, including partnerships, collaborations, and funding sources.
  • Work collaboratively with the executive team to design and implement business development strategies aligned with company objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MS or bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, bioengineering, materials science, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with hydrogel preparation and handling in a laboratory setting.
  • Basic knowledge of microfluidic systems.
  • Familiarity with mammalian cell culture techniques, including aseptic handling and maintenance.
  • Experience with standard characterization methods such as microscopy (e.g., brightfield, fluorescence, confocal), viability assays, immunostaining, and flow cytometry.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation, and data organization.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage both technical and business audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with hydrogel-based 3D culture systems (e.g., collagen, gelatin, PEG, or alginate-based).
  • Experience with patient-derived organoids (PDOs)
  • Exposure to drug screening or toxicology assays using 3D or organoid systems
  • Skilled in image analysis tools (e.g., ImageJ) and basic quantitative analysis using Python or R.
  • Previous experience with qPCR or RNAseq for tissue characterization.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to support research reporting and potential manuscript preparation.
  • Experience in business development, technology transfer, or strategic partnership roles in the life sciences sector preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities; comfortable multitasking in a fast-paced startup environment.
